Adkin promote new recruit to Associate Director and Head of Agency


Well established Oxfordshire Rural Property Consultants Adkin are promoting Andrew Chandler to Associate Director and Head of Agency with effect from the 1st February 2015. With local family farming connections Andrew has recently moved back to the area from the North West. Joining Adkin in November 2014 he brings with him 10 years of wide ranging experience across the rural property sector. A member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Fellow of the Association of Agricultural Valuers and an RICS Registered Valuer Andrew is based in Ardington, Wantage and will be focusing on Farm & Rural Property Agency and Valuation alongside other professional work.

Of his new role he says “Having extensive agency experience I have been able to hit the ground running with some great new instructions. 2015 is shaping up to be a very busy year for our Agency Department and I am delighted that Adkin see me as a key part of the business. We are a small team but one with individual specialisms and very good client contact – a winning formula.”

CAPIS Registration 

The RPA have realised that online verification process to register on the new CAPIS system is a major problem and alternatives are being put in place.

The main alternative route is to phone the RPA and go through some security questions. This is being referred to by the RPA and ‘Identity Check’. The method is only available to those who are already registered with the RPA (have a PI or SBI number) and will be based on the Customer Register rather than passports, photocard driving licence, bank statements and credit card information. Those who are not registered will need to contact Customer Services.


54th Annual Sale of Hay, Straw and Haylage Report



The Adkin Annual Sale of Hay & Straw held at Ardington, Oxfordshire on Tuesday 13th January 2015 saw a good company of buyers from across the country.  Having received poor clearance rates from other fodder auctions the trade could best be described as a curate’s egg.  The combination of our regular buyers, and one or two new ones, together with realism from venders as to the likely trade resulted in a good proportion of the fodder on offer being moved.

The excess of hay and straw across the country from a productive 2014 together with a mild winter to date has led to a slack demand.  As a result the prices achieved were very moderate in particular for hay.   Good quality hay in both large and small bales achieved modest prices.  Both wheat and barley straw were in good demand if in the larger heavier bales.

The highlight of the sale was the demand for conventional bales of barley straw with strong competition and a 100% clearance.

RPA Confirms Entitlement Values for 2014

The RPA has confirmed the entitlement values for SPS 2014. They are:-

  • €251.38 – non-SDA
  • €201.32 – SDA non-moorland
  • €35.26 – SDA moorland

Further information is available on the GOV.UK website. It is expected that claim statements should start to be made available from mid-December and entitlements statements from January 2015.

Changes to Weight and Speed Limits – Tractors and Trailers The Department for Transport has announced that it intends to change the weight and speed limits for agricultural tractors and trailers on the roads of Great Britain from Spring 2015. While the maximum laden weight for a trailer will remain unchanged, the maximum combined weight limit for a tractor and trailer will increase to 31 tonnes, allowing larger tractors to pull loads. The maximum speed limit for conventional tractors will increase from 20mph to 25mph.


Congratulations to Christine Thomas

Adkin are delighted to announce that Christine Thomas has just passed the Assessment of Professional Competence examination with the RICS and is now a qualified Chartered Surveyor! Christine has worked very hard and we are all pleased with this great achievement.

Adkin Appoints Andrew Chandler MRICS FAAV


We are delighted to announce the appointment of Andrew Chandler BSc (Hons) MRICS FAAV who will be joining the Team in November as a Senior Surveyor. A Berkshire farmer’s son, Andrew graduated from the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester in 2004.  He is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Fellow of the Association of Agricultural Valuers and a RICS Registered Valuer.  Andrew will be dealing with a wide range of professional matters and will specialise in the valuation and sale of all forms of rural property.
