NFU Tenant Farmers’ Conference

Julian Sayers was invited to speak at the NFU Tenant Farmers’ Conference which was held at Harper Adams University College in his capacity as the head of the Tenancy Reform Group alongside the NFU President, Peter Kendall and the Farming Minister, Jim Paice.

Julian said “Land buyers from outside the industry are often criticised but they offer many the chance to farm or expand. Some people don’t want to farm the land they own, people say isn’t it awful, all these wealthy people coming out of the cities and buying land. Not it is not. It creates opportunities for others to farm it for them. It’s always happened. Improved communication between landowners and tenants was essential for flexible, workable tenancy agreements to be set up and managed as tenanted farm businesses grew.”

The NFU received a very positive feedback to Julian’s presentation which can be viewed on the NFU website.

CAP REFORM SPECIAL

A leaked paper has emerged in the last few days giving some further insights into the EU Commission’s plans for CAP reform. It appears to be authentic but, dated 25th May 2011, is now over three months old. Whilst many may wish to be aware of it, it is incomplete and may well have developed and changed both in policy and detail since. Even when the formal drafts are issued, they still cannot be taken as definitive as it will be subject to discussion and negotiation.Full Bulletin
